Default Re: Hyundai Clix article

Seriously though.....

Look! At the Toronto Auto Show! It's a coupe! It's a pickup! No, it's a Clix!

Hyundai Auto Canada introduced a true "crossover" concept to at the Canadian International Auto Show on Feb. 13: a vehicle that can change into four different body formats with just a few clicks of a button.

At first, the Clix looks like a traditional sports coupe. But its transparent roof is made up of four separate, motorised panels that can quickly transform into a targa, or a cabriolet, or even a pickup. The driver can control the transformation using buttons on the centre console.

Hyundai describes the Clix as an FAV (Fun Activity Vehicle) that will allow drivers the versatility of many cars in one. Hyundai targeted the 30-something market that like to work hard and play hard. During the week, it's a "beautiful, practical car" according to a statement released by the company. On the weekend, it's a leisure vehicle. And the Clix has been designed to accommodate different driving activities, with four-wheel drive and a ground clearance that allows for off-road use.

A direct-injected, four-cylinder 2.2-litre gas engine powers the Clix, delivering a maximum output of 300 horsepower. A supercharger helps deliver the "oomph" by forcing the induction air into the combustion chambers under high pressure. That power can be transferred to the road surface, through the four-wheel drive and a sequential six-speed transmission-operated by a small lever on the steering wheel.

The Clix rides on 19-inch alloy wheels that are fitted with 255/45 R19 Pilot Sports Michelin tires. Extra-large disk brakes bring the Clix safely and powerfully to a standstill (but who needs to stop, really?). And the vehicle's 2450 millimetre wheelbase helps ensure good stability at high speed.

The concept is created on the platform that Hyundai will be using for a new model to be introduced in the middle of 2003, which will occupy a position between the Atos and the Accent in the Hyundai model range.

The Clix made its North American premiere at the auto show, which runs from Feb. 15 to Feb. 24, 2002 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ont.
