Default Notes on the XD cam from Professor Ko

Professor Ko (owner of Kuk's Auto in Korea) has given us a few thoughts on installing the XD cam into the Beta 1 engine. Here is a quote from the e-mail I received on it:

Quote:

Basically, there are several
different issues. He says that some of the tuning shops in Korea
used to use the Beta II cam but not anymore. He has dyno tested
these and they do show some mid-range power increase, but there is
a high-rpm power _decrease_. In addition, there is a difference in
the sensor notch for the TDC detector sensor, meaning that it
affects the timing that the computer sees. Additionally, there are
some issues with the different lobe widths. The Beta II cam's lobe
is a bit more narrow, which will put more pressure on a smaller
area of the HLA. That, along with the issue of running a lobe ramp
designed for a solid lifter on a hydraulic lifter, could result
in cam wear issues.
