From experince with any type of blub -> The least amount of outside contact the better...perhaps your cleaning isn't helping and infact is hurting the bulbs...plus why have them in and out all the time?
A main reason for poor vision is also alignment. You can buy the best HID lookalike bulbs and have poor vision, and you can buy the best halogens and have poor vision. It's all dependent on alignment. Many a car with blue lights go down the road and they look 'cross-eyed'.
Lastly, with experience in my Nissan, Going Super Halogens, to the HID type, to the Halogens again, i've concluded that the HID lookalikes enable you to see much more clearly and precise, but the Halogens enable you to see much farther in the distance. I suppose it's all on your personal preference. I personally am gonna stick with the Halogens for now...it's winter time and i want the distance when I need it.
