Re: insurance
if you have any demerit point with those speeding tickets, your insurance will sky rocket, especially if you are under 25. Tibs, even the 97s are rediculously expensive to insure. I am a 27 year old female with no infractions and my insurance on my tib is 1300$ a year. that is really high considering my brand new corolla is only 400$ a year and my motorcycles have always been 800$ or less. Funny that a high liability vehicle like a motorcycle is cheaper than a car.
Just as an example. My brother has 1 speeding ticket with 2 demerit points. I wanted to insure him as an "occasional" driver on my car... meaning once a week, no more than 3 KM according to my insurance group. He was 24 and not covered by my plan. It would have bumped my insurance up by almost 1K just to have him putz around in my car once a week for groceries... on my Corolla, he is free.
Tib's have a high theft rate because they are easy to break into and quick to move... they can be pieced out and sold for over 100K. This is what makes them expensive to insure.
IF you are male and under 25, you will find it probably not easily affordable to own one...
As an excellent alternative, I would suggest the Accent... a very tune-able, very sexy car. Every bit as spacious as the Tib, unbelievably peppy, very comfy ride and very cool. Mostly, a lot less expensive to buy and insure. Ask John Pare about his... he has an out of this world sweet accent!
