well, the old race tires I was using were just that, old! They were about 4 years old when I bought them so I think that was part of the reason why they started chunking at the end of sessions. And, come to find out just within the last couple of days, they are designed for autocross, not road course!

I guess I'll start brown nosing some friends locally that have a tire pyrometer to see if I can loan it for a weekend then!
