Yeah, you should upgrade your shocks with any coilovers or lowering springs, as the stiffer springs and the lower ride height quickly wear out a set of shocks.

As for the range of adjustment, I had Weapon Rs on my car very briefly (I found them too stiff for my needs) and at the highest point, the car sat a little lower than stock. I never tried to see how low they would go, but from the looks of the setup, I would guess you could lower the car 3-4 inches from stock height.
