Default Re: chip tunning

Nothing personal, but I still remain sceptical.

I am always wary when people say that they have heard abotu something through a friend... I would much rather hear it from the person who did it, and not second hand, as things always get lost or misinterpreted through word of mouth.

Secondly, just beacuse it revs out another 500 rpm does not mean that the power will be any more, especially if the timing has been changed. This change in timing may be the result of the crank angle sensor being located 5 degrees further around in relation to TDC, which may not necessarily be a good thing.

And as far as comparing ECU's, you could compare the look if the Accent's, ECU, Tib's ECU and a V6 Sonata ECU.... I am sure they may all look similar on the outside, and even plug, but it is what is inside that counts. Even the if you took off the case of the ECU, the circuit boards may look similar, but what you cannot see if the program and data stored within the ECU.

The only real way to tell is to get an expert to analyse all the data and programmes. Afterall, you could get a Microtech, Motec, or any aftermarket ECU and programme it to suite one engine, but will be totally wrong for another.

As for 'doing the experiment', I would not want to volunteer my car for it, as if it is not right, it could blow the ECU, or blow the engine. I'd hate to be up for an engine rebuild or new engine simply because I tried something that I heard through the grape vine worked.

No dis-respect, but I would be very wary of trying what you have heard works, as it could be a very expensive mistake. The only time I would contemplate trying it would be if I could see a proper write up from a reputable workshop, or Hyundai themselves, showing it being done, along with dyno charts and their technical comments and analysis before they swapped ECU (sensor outputs and readings, etc) regarding and after (dyno charts, detonation, O2 sensor readings, road tests, and long term (1,000 km and 5,000 km) feedback.

Cheers
