300lbs more then what? No engine at all? LOL

There is no way there is a 300lb difference in the 2 engines. If I remember right, the weight difference is less then 100lbs

and remember; all the 1.5 alpha (no matter if its a base SOHC or the GT DOHC or even the new 1.6 DOHC) AND the 2.0 beta were originally designed to be run with forced inducton. and if you put teh larger beta in there will be absolutely no more room for a turbo compressor and piping; or at best it will fit VERY tight and youd probably have to look into other radiator options as you will be very close there.

There is room to put a turbo beta in the accent or have you forgotten about the Hyundai WRC car?

However, you will need to lose a/c or powersteering.

$1000 for beta motor and tranny
$2000 easily for cams; balancing crank; pistons; overbored block; rods; exhaust; ecu; headwork; intake manifold work; BBTB.

Yes it will be expensive to tune it to 180whp but so will an 180whp alpha. The Beta will also be more reliable at higher hp levels this is why you find it is used in all pro race Hyundais.

whereas you can get rods and turbo pistons from a turbo s-coupe that drop right in cheaper than any aftermarket pistons. and the money you spend on cams alone will buy you a nice garret t3 turbo or similar and with an intercooler and good tuning youll be at 180whp right from the get go if you set it up right. and youll be lighter.

It will take a little bit more then that to get a 180whp from the alpha. Ok, A LOT more then that.:hmmm:

That is fine, but you can run a bigger turbo and run much higher boost an the Beta then the alpha. Tuning the alpha is always an option but it is one more limited then tuning the Beta.
