Default DIY port matching?

if i have a dremel and a couple hours time...can i do my own port matching of the intake manifold? is it hard to do? basically i'm thinking if i take off the manifold (how hard is that?) can i use a marker to outline where to bore to and start in with the dremel? or maybe i dont need to take it off, can stuff it with a towel so no shards get in then dremel away?? :ermm:
