Bit late, but I have done some research on this in preperation for starting the mods on my own car. Basically, like oils ain't oils, extractors arn't extractors. The wrong extractor takes away power, dosn't just provide it. They have to be specifically designed for the car you are fitting them on, or exactly as you have said above happens.
I'm looking at the RPW 3 into one jobbies for my Tib.
