With enough money almost anything could be fit in there.
From the factory you have the 1.8l and 2.0l Beta I engines. Newer 2.0l Beta II engines can fit and with a little work run off of your sensors but there's no gain with that swap.
The 2.7l V6 from the 2003+ Tiburon can be swapped in. Some people have swapped in the 4G63T or other Japanese engines but that's far from a direct fit or easy swap. There's a twin engined AWD Tiburon with 2 turbocharged 2.0l engines one over each axle...
