Hello I'm new here and just wanted to introduce my car to you guys. There car is a 2004 hyundai accaccent with 106k. Bought it a month ago stock for 1500$. Found some mini wheels for 50$ a set at a thrift store. Score! I also 're did some of the intirior with some cloth I found at goodwill. Handstitched shift boot. I want to go faster and plan on swapping it. I'm thinking big....3.8 maybe rear wheel drive. It has some problems. It's hard to get into 5th gear and super hard to get into reverse. Any ideas? I also need to find some new hatch shocks and a new latch. The guy I bought it from has no idea where the super emblem came from and has owned the car since it had 6k miles. Any ideas???? Thanks for reading and any input.
Hi, I had similar symptoms from a n Hyundai Exel from new and had the problem identified as shims on bearings (integral with bearing not separate). Gearbox was eventually overhauled and problem disappeared.
You could try RockAuto Parts Catalog for just about all the parts you want for the hatch. I have found them to be cheaper than O'Reilly's or AutoZone, even with the shipping. And got better quality parts.
The interior is different, but then that is a matter of taste. Some people love the feel of leather, and others the feel of cloth. And still others like the plastic.
You apparently have one of the sychos in the trans going bad, or you may have a shifter that has moved off center causing it to rub when trying to get into 5th and Reverse.
IMHO I would only go up to the 2.0L with a turbo. If you want to go to rear wheel drive, plan on doing a bit of fabrication. Finding all the parts you will need will be fun too. Be sure you carefully plan this whole thing out. Watch lots of YouTube videos and research every forum you can so you get a good idea of what is involved. Do you want a live rear end like a pickup truck, or an IRS? Is this going to be a daily driver, or a race car? All this has to be considered before you begin work. Plan on dedicating at least 8 months for the entire build, spending about 5 hours a day, every day, on working on the car. And that is with you doing over the majority of the work.
Have fun and keep us posted. Maybe you could start a thread of all the work you do.
