Default Problem with Door speakers and water.

This past week I picked up 4 Kenwood 5 1/4" speakers for an amazing price, and this weekend I put them in. When I took off the front door panels and hauled out the speakers I noticed a fair bit of rust on the bottoms of the speakers. The passenger side was so bad that it was shorted out. There is no rust inside the doors themselves, so I know the water that does get in there is draining properly from the weep holes. Has anyone had a problem with water in the doors and rust on the speakers? I bought this car used a few months ago so I'm not sure if someone just left the windows down and got rain in there or if this is something I should be looking deeper in to.

I was thinkin I might put some plastic wrap around the outside of the speakers cups to keep the water off them. I'll put a hose to the windows tommorow and haul the panel off and check the water situation.

HAperformance: hardly a stupid question, they can be stubborn. Use the rag trick; use a real thin material rag and slide it between the panel and the round ring behind the crank. From what I read I thought you had to have it between the crank and the ring. I tried for a good hour then on a whim slid it behind the ring and off it popped. Just work the rag around in a circle until it snags the clip. Once you do it once you'll laugh at yourself because it's so easy. Good luck.

OK you guys scared the crap out of me with this rusting stuff, I checked my speakers out today and after one full year, parked outside and washed with a power washer I'm happy to say, no rust. Only thing I can think of differant is that I got the rust spray protection done to my car. There were no signs of water either.:surprised:
