Default Valve Tapping

I have a 2k2 gsi with the 1.6L. When I started my car the other morning it I heard a tapping sound. It sounded like a valve tapping and everyone I talked to agreed. The thing is when the car warms up the valve stops making the noise. I have also noticed the only time I hear the valve tapping is when it gets anywhere near or below zero celcius. Does anyone have any Idea what is happening.

HLA's are ticking, it's pretty common with Hyundais, I'd say just make sure you keep enough oil in the car and change it when it should be, as long as it goes away after you've let the car warm up for a couple minutes, it should be fine

Go to your local autoparts store(Napa etc) and ask for a "Alaska pad". There a heated pad that you glue to the bottom of your oil pan. Most mechanics know that block heaters are junk. The biggest problem with cold starts is lack of oil(do to its increased viscocity) at the top end of engines. Block heaters don't do a very good job of heating your oil, Alaska pads put heat right into the oil which helps prevent dry start situations. There a must have for us Canuk's.:

I have the same problem except I have deduced its my alternator shaking (if you hold it down the noise goes away) I brought it back a couple times and was told it was normal noise until me and my dad really figured out what it was. Sometimes I smell rubber burning when I get out of my car. And if I start it then try to turn the wheel the belt squeeks. So therefore it leads me to believe its the belts and they're misaligned. Which could be whats causing my alternator to shake. Well ANYWAY, one day when you start it, pop the hood and hold down the alternator and see if it goes away. If not then its just the oil.
