Next time you drive your car hold the shifter just below the knob. You will notice faster shifting, it dosen't take as long to get into certain gears(3rd, 5th, 1st).

Its a nice Free Mod to do if you can't afford the short throw shifter. I have also heard it does a mad awesome tightening if you also have a short throw

One last note, unconfirmed, the grinding you feel as your transmission gets older when shifting seems to go away.

What grinding are you referring to cause mine feels like it is doing some grinding mainly when I shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I have 52,xxx miles. On a side note, I just got the tranny fluid changed would this have anything to do with it.

The grinding I talk about is when you shift and you grind. Kinda like for a moment the car dosent want to go there. Your shifting is tighter so its more precise.

Hey wonder if Kid Hyundai could post on this. He is the one who told me about this originally...

Yes, that's what I am experiencing almost as if the car doesn't want to go into the gear. I just want to know if this is something I need to worry about.

old transmission = grumpy transmission.

im going to cut my shifter and see if it helps my car stop grinding.

my 99 accent has 106k on it now so its either that or replace some parts. which I don't want to do because I want a 2.0 engine in my car with a tib transmission and clutch box.

Save your money and buy a Quickshifter! The HVE (www.hve.com.au) quickshifters got a modified pivot point so the throw is alot less that stock, up to 60%, and still a lot less the a shortshifter!!!

Heres from one of my old posts...

quote:
Its not just cut the pivot is modifed and so the throw is about 60% less. They then sell it as a complete assembly replacement. Unforunately, the Excel/Accent assembly is full metal, so its kinda heavy. The Coupe/Tib/Elantra/Lantra/Sonata etc are all plastic assemblies.
...

quote:
The Quickshifter price aprox $150.00 US
(old price, our $ is crap, anyway its $215 so it should be just over the $100 mark),
quote:
Freight $30.00 US. If u send the old shifter back they will credit u on your credit card or by check $30.00 US for each one received back undamaged.

An order 5 or more will get u 5% discount on each Quickshifter
Ten Quickshifter will get u 8% discount on each one.

Payment can be made by either providing your credit card details or by sending a bankdraft or postal/money order to P.O. Box 178 Ermington NSW 1700 Australia.
