Catalyic Convertor Gutting

Hey, as the title suggests, i want to gut my cat, therefore remove the fiberglass interior and just leave the case.
Is this possible.
Ps. I live in Australia, and we have different emmision rules here. (although it is still highly illegal)

I had it done to a 91 excell once. Much louder engine noise
