Default What is this sensor?

When I removed my stock airbox to add on a cone filter, there was a sensor that attached into the side of the box. It has a pointed appearance with a 4-support plastic guard around a wire sensor of some sort. I was just wondering what this sensor was. I currently have it disconnected without any Check Engine Light. I always thought it was the mass airflow sensor until I actually searched and saw pictures of what that was. Is this an air temperature guage maybe?

Whatever the piece is, let me know if it has any effect on performance, etc... because I kept all the original parts so I could cut a hole in the current piping to re-install it if needed.

You were pretty close in your guess.

It's the Intake Air Temperature Sensor. It measures the temperature of the air, and based on the readings it sends back to the ECU, it helps the ECU to adjust the fuel/air ratio.

Definitely incorporate it into your new intake setup. Cutting a hole in the tubing between the filter and the MAF sensor should work quite nicely.
