ok....in second gear in my stock 1.5 with a 5 speed excel I seem to get a boost of power when I hit 2800 - 3000 on my tach. It kinda feels like it happens in all gears....but is really noticable in second......any ideas why. also I just put some 14 inch tires on in place of my 13's will this throw off my speedometer at all.....the thing with second gear was happening before I switched tires. :chinese:

by 14 inch tires... I'm sure you mean rims, and the error in the speedometer would depend on your tire size. You could have 18 inch rims and still have a correct speedometer if you find small enough tires
What Jerkitt means, is that if you have increased the diameter of your wheels from 13" to 14", you need to reduce the profile of your tyres to keep to the same overall dia..
I.E. Was 185x60x13= now 185x50x14.
Hope this helps!.
Thanks for the answers guys...I didnt realize that was where the peak torque was, it makes sense now.......I will look at the tire size and see what they are I know they are rather thin.....I got them from a totaled sonata that was on its way to the junk heap.....four almost new tires on stock steel wheels....but hey four tires for 15 bucks....not too shaby I think...also I believe they are cheng shin brand tires...any opinions on that brand...

I have the same brand tires they are 170/75/R13 they were on the car when i bought it they seem to hold up for quite a while, Not to good in the snow though , i found them at a place called Kelleher Tire for like $45 bucks a piece and seem to be kinda soft tread , they aren't that good in the snow but hey they were 45 bux a piece what can i expect ..on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give em a 6.5.
Peak torque is at about halve maximum engine revolutions, and 14" rims won't affect your speedo, as long as the tyres have a smaller wall.
Someone posted a site that shows you different wheels/tyre sizes and the differences in rolling radiuses, but i can't find it!??~ $am.uzzled:
