Well, I started a similar thread in the noob forum a while ago, but I am still confused.
I'm not sure exactly what to do. Do I get new rims+tires, or is there just new tires? I have no idea. But what I do know is, the constant skidding in rain, horrid perfomance in turns, and tire slipping on taking off is getting me really annoyed.
Now, from what I've read, getting bigger rims, and tires that are wider in the base would help me on my quest to have high perfomace riding. Is this true? Becasue I see a lot of sporty cars out there with the thin tires and the bigger rims that look more or less like racing tires.
Now, I'm not sure what the bolt configuration on a 4-door Accent 01 is, so any help on the tire info would be helpful.
And if anyone here is willing to let me know if they've done this to thier or a 01 accent gl, I'd really appreciate it.
first off, you are running on the stock steel rims and tyres correct? the stock rims are 13"x5" and tyres are 175/70 R13 (i think)
I upgraded from this to wheels:15"x6" and 195/50 R15 tyres. there is an increase in handeling. i wouldn't reccomend going bigger than 17"x7" rims, as unleas you are prepared to do bodywork to the car, the wheels will rub (they may also rub on 16 or 17 inch wheels aswell, but can be fixed easily)
the bolt pattern for the 2000+ accent is 4x100.
if after you get the new wheels and you still want better handeling......get some lowering springs to lower the car (may cause you wheels to rub) and a rear sway bar. these would probably be the better ones but there are others like: performance shocks, eurothane bushes, front and rear strut braces, camber kits, caster kits and for the hardcore guys.....coilovers
hope this helps....:

i have a 2002 accent and i just recently got rims put on my car. the only thing that i don't understand is whether or not u want to get new rims or not ??? if u want to get new rims u have to get new tires. if u just want to get new tires then u don;t have to worry about anything regarding the rims. post something a little more specific if u don;t mind and then i will get back to you, but it just sounds like the wear on your tires is gone bad, but that is weird b/c u have a 2001 car and ur tires should be good for at least 3 yrs. but hey just get back with a new post and then i will try and see if i can help.

If they are spinning their tires alot, as described above, that means that the tread will wear down much much faster.
I would agree that you are best off getting new wheels if you want better preformance. My GL came with 14" wheels with Toyo 185/60/14. The rear tires are still the same ones with not a whole lot of wear, but with all my spinning over the course of a year I had to get new tires for the front.
I also have a front strut bar which descresed the front body roll and which in turn decreased the rear sway. But for better handling a rear sway bar or rear strut bar will help alot.

Should have rotated them every 6 months or so. However, the stock tires (I think I know which kind you have), tend to be a lower quality than good high performance rubber. My stock tires had a 40,000 mile lifespan. My high performance rubber has 50,000 for a lifespan (195/50/15).
Ok, to answer a common question, yes I want new rims. I have the origional stock 13"x5" rims and I'm planning on getting 15"x(Not sure, but recommendations are welcome)" rims. Since that seems to be the most viable option without having to alter the cars body work.
Is there a certain brand that's superior to the rest? A certain material it's made out of?
Is there a certain tire brand/model that goes good with the said rim maker?
And just one more question for now () Ok, I get the bigger rims and tires, does that increase the hieght from my car to the ground and I'll have to get ti lowered, or will my car still be at the same level it was with the 13" rims?

perl how the hell did you get a '01 GL with 14 inch rims on it as an otion?? or did u buy a slightly used car or something uzzled:

The 14 inch rims are an option. Most of the time, 13's are stuck on the car.
my 15" rims have a total diamater same as the stock 13". the wheels are bigger, but the low sidewall of the tyer makes the diameter stay the same which means the hight of the car wont be changed.
I think that a 16/6 rim with 205/45 tyers has a diameter 15mm larger than standard. (correct me if i am wrong) which means the car will be slightly higher.

Ah, that's great news!
But I'm jsut a bit confused about that. How can a 15" diameter rim be tha same total diameter of the stock 13"'s? I know I've mis-read that somehow.
