Default **New Muffler**

I was thinking about getting a new muffler for my 2002 Hyundai Accent L, i was wondering what type that anyone would recommend. I do not want it to be too loud (so much that it would not pass restrictions or sound like a too muck like a rice-burner), but I want it to be more aggressive as the stock muffler. The price range would be up to about $250 not including installation. Please respond with as many suggestions or personal experiences as possible. Thank you.

IMO unless you change all the piping the car won't really get that loud, unless you put on like a glass pack or something. Basically what I'm saying is depend on your own opinion, any name brand stainless muffler is good, for unriceyness sake stay away from APC/pepboys mufflers as they tend to be way to long for any small car. Apex N1's really look the part, and I dig the large bore slash cuts like GReddy, but so does everyone else and those seem to be the most common, don't think I've seen any one try a Supertrapp yet.

i have done just the muffler for now and it sounds great....i don't know what brand it is caus i had them sit a number of mufflers over the exhaust pipe and the one that i thought sounded the best, i had them weld on. just don't go doing it believing you will get a performance increase.... :

well it all depends on what kind of sound you want. more japenese tuned mufflers have a higher pitched raspy sound when you get on it. Your european mufflers tend to have a very deep sound when at idle and get softer as you get higher up the rpms, and your american mufflers tend to be deep the whole way. For japanese you can get a apexi n1 like mentioned before, i know the 5zigen is pretty good and light and i think hks, blitz, tanabe and jic all sell universal mufflers. For euro you got remus, bosal and a few others that i'm forgetting. American you have your flowmaster, dynomax and magnaflow. You have some side brands that tend to be pretty good as well such as ac autotechnic, hayame and tsudo. Pretty much any muffler that you pay under 100 for isn't going to be made the best, ebay is an exception if you get a good brand aforementioned above. I have had good experience with ac autotechnics, flowmaster 60 series and dynomax, i've heard very good things from any of the major japenese companies as well as magnaflow. The choice is yours just do some research, a lot of companies have sound clips you can hear of certain cars equiped with that muffler. Whatever is the best price and quality matters the most. Get stainless steel! And everyone is right by saying you might as well just replace all the exhaust up to the cat for the best performance gain. If you don't want something too loud just get an inline resonator(pre muffler) put in to quiet things down.

Hi!......your best bet , if you want to see any performance gains, in addition to a deeper & sportier exhaust note, is to go to Longlife Exhausts (S. London, Bristol & other branches) & have them build you a cat.-back system.
You get to specify the sound & choose tailpipe style etc. & they fabricate & fit it while you go for a pint or three...(2-3 hours). Stainless steel = lifetime guarantee!. X)
