Default Stupid tire question

OK my stock tires are 175/70/R13 (22.6" dia, and a width of 6.9") . I'm looking at either 195/45/R15 (21.9" dia and a width of 7.7") or 205./40/R16(22.5 dia and a width of 8.1"). There's is not much differance between them on paper as both have a smaller dia and just over the width of stock. Is it just a matter of grinding some plastic to make them fit or a supention/spring upgrade. Mind you this is more of a family car and if I could I would like keep costs to a min. Thanks!!
jesse.

The 195's will fit with out a problem. As for the 205's you might have to roll your fenders. Do a search on rolling fenders to see how it is done.

You should list your car in your profile.

By going to "Edit Profile", you can add a car so that it is displayed under your user name. You can also add pictures to you profile so that people can see your car.

Also, you can add an avatar from the collection provided or add a custom one of your own.

Most people seem to go eith 55 or 50 series tires like 195/55/15.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

calculate with this site :

if you want look go with 16" if you want a bit of confort still left go with 15"

175/70R13 compare to 195/50R15 it's just .1% bigger so you'll will roll at 60.1mph when your Speedmeter indicate 60mph :

with 205/40R16 it's .5% smaler then you stock tire... so 60mph indicate will be 59.5mph real :

I may be misunderstanding you, but are you suggesting that you are changing your wheels aswell?

Your 175/70/R13 are a tyre for a 13" wheel, the tyre is 175mm wide, and the tyre wall is equal to 70% of the width of the tyre. A 195/45/R15 is 195mm wide and made for a 15" diameter wheel, and a 205/40/R16 is 205mm wide and made for a 16" wheel, hence neither will fit on your current wheels.
