Default Scoupe/Accent Brakes .. the same?

Well...got online and noticed 4doorGL had done his Tiburon Brake conversion on the accent.. Ive looked through hma service but i havent had much luck distinguishing the difference between the front brakes of the x3 accent and my 2nd generation Scoupe... does anybody know if the brake conversion can also work on the scoupe..as captive rotors have been the biggest pain in my butt while looking for new wheels.

Thanks,

Can you take a picture of the rotor and behind the rotor?

Get me that pic and I can tell you.

Hi Dacowgod,

Unfortunately the simple answer is no.

The disc rotor is the same 257mm disc as used on the early model J2 Lantra, and the callipers and brake pads are the same, but I understand the bearings are different, and know for sure the knuckle is different.

I have fitted a set of J1 Lantra knuckle/brakes to my S-Coupe, which were a direct bolt on. The distance between the two clevis bolts that hold the knuckle to the strut are a different distance apart between the J1 and J2 knuckle/brake/hub assembly. The J1 assembly bolts onto the X2 Excel and all S-Coupe models, and the J2 assembly bolts onto the X3 Excels/Accents.

I am waiting to get my hands on a set of the non-captive bearings and hubs for the May 98 Lantra onwards to see if they can be fitted to the J1 knuckle assembly, and should know this in the coming weeks.

Chances are that if you get a set of J1 Lantra knuckles/brakes the bearings will need replacing anyway, as the J1 was made between 1990 and 1995, and any car with bearings 8-13 years old will probably need new bearings anyway. It may be easier to get the knuckles/brakes, and have new bearings and rotors fitted before you fit them onto your car. Thay way the fitting onto your car part will only take a few hours.

Cheers

bretton,

The J1 Lantra converts to which car in the States? I saw a while back where you were talking about the conversion for your S-Coupe and thought that would take care of some issues for me.
Thanks

The J1 Lantra/Elantra was the first generation Lantra, which was made between May 1991 and August 1995.

Cheers
