broken spring

My left front spring (suspension) is cracked in half. How could this happen? Has it happend to anyone else?

There was actually a recall for that for the Accent. The recall dealt with springs that could rust, weaken, and break. Maybe go to a local dealer and ask them if your particular car (I think they keep track of which cars have received recall service by VIN) had the springs replaced under the recall.
