I am not sure if this is the correct section for this, but here it goes. I am currently making a cai for my 1998 Accent. As it stands right now, I have 2 inch pvc pipe running from under my car, up by the battery and into the stock air filter box. now, I have also tried bypassing the stock filter box and that seemed to give me a much better result, but I did not have a filter inline. what I would like to do i remove my air box completely and pipe straight to the throttle body, but I cannot find a filter that I can install in-line with the 2" pipe. what can I use to accomplish this? The only aftermarket filters I can find are for wai, which are those huge 4 - 6" cones.

The cone filter is better for you because it can get air from all sides. The filter you are thinking of would have some restriction of the flow of air.
but if I got the cone filter, isn't that limited to just the air in the engine compartment? from what I remember, they attach to the end of the pipe and act as the cap. in other words, once they are installed, that is where the pipe stops.
I have a standard cone filter on my 98 accent GSi that I bought at Autozone. I also bought a plastic adapter that fits into the end opening of the cone filter and allows for a hose to clamp onto it and routed a hose to under the car behind the grill. This seems to work great so a cone filter is not necessarily a "end cap".
