Default Accent tranmision + service

I just brought my 2002 Accent to service because my transmission was not shifting right from 1st to 2nd gear. It was grinding at around 4000 rpm and just was hard to shift at lower rpm's. i had also been hearing a rattle in the right rear suspension. i found out that the 2nd gear syncro is stripped, both rear struts need to be replaced, some sort of mounting kit needs to be put on, and the front wheel bearing needs to be replaced. All of this stuff is covered under warranty(good thing) and i dont know why it would be this bad as i do not beat my car.

just an informative post.

I have heard from people that the syncros are weak on the stick transmissions. Wheel bearings can go out easy, but it depends on the kind of driving you do.

I have 2 LC Accents in for major work. Both are getting a lot of aftermarket stuff installed, plus beta engines. One is an automatic and the other is a stick. Both had to be towed in because the transmissions were fried on both. On the manual, someone stripped several gears. The automatic's trouble was from the fluid that was put in 6 months ago. Apparently, a shop who serviced the tranny put Dexron III fluid in instead of the Diamond SP III fluid Hyundai specifies. I could tell by the bright red color of the fluid as well as the service invoice. This turns out that the warranty will not cover the work for the failed auto transmission. The problem lies with the sensors and solenoids, which melted; because the fluid is abrasive enough to melt plastic.

Dude not to get off topic but since your doing a beta swap, please try to do a write up or take pics or somthing, plenty of ppl always ask about this swap, few will also ever go through with it. Maybe you could do a diy kinda thing for the site.

I'll have to get the vehicles owners permission to take the pics. I think they will (both are getting beta engines, 1 a turbo) allow me to do this. It might take a while, we are going through major work on both cars, body and drivetrain mods. I am in the process right now ordering the body parts we need to get (body kit and springs/struts) as well as all of the engine/tranny stuff. I have both transmissions and engines, but they are in the middle of being rebuilt to my specs. Since 1 is an automatic, I chose a XG 350 tranny which I modified to work with the 2 liter engine and the Accent frame.

My 2001 accent gsi auto tranny dropped at 35000. My paint Cracked all over the roof and one quarter panel at 45000. Now, at fifty grand, there's a nice, horrible grinding noise coming from the passenger front tire. Worse when making right corners. Any ideas? I booked it in for paint and balancing on Tuesday. Going to get it checked out somewhere else today. My Belief in Hyundai as a decent vehicle has been deposited in the toilet along with my big mac combo.

It might be the right brake caliper hanging up on you, a bad wheel bearing (most likely) or a right driveshaft cv joint that is bad (second part that likely would cause such noise).

The paint on Hyundais is a synthetic enamel which is not used here anymore. The synthetic stuff lifts and peels very easy and does not hold up very well. When my students and I sanded my car with 80 grit sandpaper by hand, the paint came off so easy that we did not have to use machines to strip it.

I've heard lots of horror stories about Accents breaking, but it hasn't seem to happen to mine, everything that has gone on my car has been my own fault and I know it. I now have 95,000kms on my 2001 and for example, the tranny shifts better than when it was brand new and the engine is just as strong, and I drive it like I stole every single day. I guess Hyundai suffers from build quality consistency, one comes off the line all screwed up and the next could be just right.

Any car can go belly up, even those driven decently and maintained. My Accent has had no major trouble. I drive it every day and it still gets me to my destination. A couple switches and sensors blew, but it was drivable (replaced under warranty).

Hyundai does have its drawbacks, as any car does. We have to work with that to overcome it.
