Alright guys..I know you can help me out on this..
YES I KNOW WHERE THE DAMNED SEARCH BUTTON IS.. There.. I had to get that out of the way..
I have my nice little 01 Tib that I autocross, problem is, that I want a car I can just autocross with.. I'm talking bare bones strip out everything and race for a damn trophy!
I either want an Excel or a S-coupe.. Here is where you guys come in...
I need to know what the differences are between a S-coupe and an Excel.. Are the differrences like that of a Tiburon VS Elantra? where it is basically the same suspension setup, just a little sloppier body on the Elantra?
Engines.. Which has the more potential when it comes to motors? (Which doesn't really matter, since I have a 4g63 waiting in the wings... But for the time being, which will be the easiest to haul ass with...
I am hoping for the S-coupe, but in reality, I think I will find an Excel due to the SEVERE lack of S-Coupes around here (Palm Bay, FL)
I hope you guys can help me out.. throw in ANY tid-bit of information you guys have.. If you have any links, drop me a line at the address at the bottom of the post..
I can give you some info on the Excels, however you didn't name which particuar model you may use X2 or X3?. But for an X2 here goes..
*I am assuming the 63 is a turbo?*
Here in Oz a person down in Sydney put a 63t in an 93 X2 weighing in at 970kg running 157kw at the front wheels, mind you this is modified. The guy who owns it is Jigger Garcia, this was a year ago (Featured in Hot4's). There is a rally X2 car that do circuits in a sedan model (91 I think), I have only seen this once and once only and they look like a good vehicle. Unfortuantly I dont know much more about that car i.e which class it runs in and which comp - I think it maybe Targa Tasmania or some rally course down in the southern region. Though I could be mistaken, maybe someone here could shed some light?.
As for engine swaps with the 63t go for the Excel, it will bolt up but you will run into a few problems as I have with it's brother the 61t, namely the flywheel and clutch (wirring is another post). The flywheel on the 61t is far to long in length and hits the cowling or the inside of the gear box of an x2, however the 4g62t of a mitsu 84 cordia aa 1.8l gsr turbo will fit, so that maybe something to think about?. For a 63t you may need a differant fly wheel, or go with what I am going to say below, at a costly price.
Now for gear ratio's, the standard 5spd gear box for an X2 wont hold up to a racing aptitude (unless you go with a heavy duty clutch and maybe a custom lightweight flyweel), if you want to win trophy's I do suggest getting a cyborg mirrage gearbox or a n/a 4g61 gearbox, this will involve differant drive shafts unfortuantly and increase the ratios compared ot an x2 - obviously .
As you mentioned that the S-Coupes are rare in your part of town that I do suggest an X2, specificaly for aftermarket parts, and for future parts.
One last thing, try looking for a sponsorship if you are seriously into racing, you may find it hard in your local area but it is worth a shot and they will give discounts of course .
Hopefully this may help without going into to much detail.

Hi!, I think the Excel will be better-suited to your purpose, as the Scoupe probably does not have enough ground-clearance for Autocross.
Apart from the Scoupe Turbo, which is a rare car, the engines are virtually the same.
Hope this helps, Nick.

Nick, I think you're thinking about rallycross, but he's asking about autocross, which is done on flat pavement.
Oh right!......I guess it`s not a U.K. thing; twas just that I have to use a trolley-jack to raise my car high enough to allow a pair of ramps to reach the front tyres when I`m working on it, so as for going off-road.........................!.
Sorry, Nick.:embarrassed:

Heh... I had trouble getting ramps under the bumper too, and that was before I lowered it! So I know what you mean. It's all good. 8D
To the best of my knowledge the are essentially the same chassis just with different body style. Early Scoupes have the same Mitsu 1.5 & tranny, but at some point they got Hyundai drivetrain(turbo93-94?).I did some nosing around www.hmaservice.com comparing diagrams of the two suspension, steering etc. and they were the same. There of course may be minor differences, but try cross-referncing part#'s to be sure.
