Default So, who wants forged pistons for your 1.5L? scoupe, X3/LC accent!

Alright, I'm planning on going turbo at some point, and I have a spare 1.5L SOHC that I picked up for my '98 accent. So, I'm going to want to get some lower compression forged pistons.

According to Shadohh, wiseco http://www.wiseco.com needs at least 10 orders to start making new pistons..

Now, pistons for the alpha would be usable for a wide range of applications..

93-95 scoupes, both n/a and t/c should be able to use these pistons, as well as ALL X3 95-99 accents (both SOHC and DOHC), and LC 00-02 accents that have the 1.5L SOHC alpha.

All the engines have the same bore and stroke: 75.5mm x 83.5mm

then, each variation has a one of two variations in piston diameter, but they all fit in the same bore block, so it really makes no difference.

1.5 dohc - 75.465-75.495mm
1.5 sohc - 75.47-75.50 mm
scoupe t/c - 75.465-75.495 mm
scoupe n/a - 75.470-75.500 mm

as you can see, the n/a scoupe's alpha and the SOHC alpha from the X3's are the same. Also, the scoupe t/c alpha and the DOHC alpha are the same. I am thinking this has something to do with the fact of the compression ratios and such, but I really am not sure.

The compression ratios, just for the heck of it:

1.5 dohc - 9.5:1
1.5 sohc - 10:1
scoupe t/c - 7.5:1
scoupe n/a - 10:1

So, basically if we get a piston made, it would work in all these blocks, as even though all the pistons have slight variation, the bores are all the same. It would probably be oversized by whatever is a reccommended oversided bore to go to.. I'm not sure on that. But, they would be forged, and lower compression in all instances but the scoupe t/c models. In this case, it would be a welcomed increase in compression from the anemic 7.5:1. I am thinking something like 8.7:1 as suggested to me by Shadohh.

I don't know how much it would run, but most low compression forged pistons tend to run $400 or so.

So who wants in?! If there are about 9 other interested guys, maybe we can get something REAL underway!

If you have :
93-95 scoupe, t/c or n/a
95-99 accent DOHC or SOHC
00-02 accent 1.5L

And you are serious about turbocharging, and you will want some FORGED, LOWER COMPRESSION pistons, say somethin!

I don't know man.. like I said.. probably around $400 or more..

I haven't even talked to Wiseco or anything.. I jsut want to know if 10+ people are interested, so we can make a decent request of them. I emailed them once awhile ago and have not heard back as of yet. Hopefully if I email them specs and a list of names that might be interested, we can get something started.

Ross did her pistons, why not call them and ask them if they still have the CAD program in their computer. Would save time & money probably. BTW 10 people to make new pistons? Ross made one single set for her. I know JE does also. that is a rip off. Also the 8.7 is about right for the Alpha. HVE recommened 8.8 for us. That is what she ran.

uhuhuh you're passacly saying that Gt have a bit smaler piston with more Compresion ? good to know putting sohc piston in a Gt block some hp would be gained ? :hmmm:

The Scoupe Turbo`s pistons are TOTALLY different....apart from the reduced diameter to counter heat, they have large dishes in the crown to reduce compression to 7.5:1!.
Nick.

Nick what do you think of it ? if dohc piston are really 9.5:1 if i get the 10:1 from the sohc that are a bit bigger it would increase Hp and torque no ? uzzled:

Hi Barman!......the gain would be small & apart from piston/ring cost, you would also have a new gasket & studs to buy.
Similar gains could be obtained by increasing your fuel`s octane rating a couple of points; or better, by shielding the filter on your short ram pipe & providing it with a good supply of cold air!.
Cheers, Nick.
