Ok.. I have an '01 Accent base model hatch. I bought some "universal" racing buckets for her cause the old seats are fugly. I look and the bar size is just right it should fit on the mount brackets so I'm happy. I unbolt the passenger seat and flip it over to take off the mounting brackets and instead of bolts in the bolt holes what does Lance see?... FUGGING WELD!!
They welded the freaking seat rails to the mounting brackets >< I'm not sure how what you would use to cut a weld like that and its spot welded through the freaking bolt holes so I know I'm going to have to drill that out but how do I get rid of the side welding they did. (they went overboard on the whole welding thing).
I tried my dremel and the cutting disks just cant hang against the weld so.. I'm kinda at a loss. A torch seems like it wouldnt be very good for the bracket I dont wanna warp the freakin things.
Has anyone done this already and maybe have some pointers?

well after scouring the web looking for some one that makes brackets for my car it looks like I"m rigging something tonight ><
the rails on a second glance look to be just a touch too short, I dont think the holes are going to line up with the brackets once I get them off the old seats rails. I'm not sure how I'm going to make that work but oh well. I'm going to buy a grinder and cutting wheel tonight to cut the brackets off the factory seat rails and fiddle with it tonight i guess.
if its too short I could probably use a torch and some welding rods and reweld the brackets to the new seat rails but getting the measurments right is gonna be a pain in the a$$. Every site i look at has rail kits for multiple brands of seats for the Excel/Elantra/Tibb. Nothing for the accent :P

i have R1 racing seats in my 01 gl and i cut off the bracket just where it mounts to the floor (hard to explain in sentence form), basically from there i got some 3/8 and 1/4 inch steel and welded me a custom bracket. Have fun leveling the seat!
well after much pain, two hack saws, and a carbide cutting disk, oh and 6 stitches we got all the brackets off the passenger seat :P we cut them so the portion where they level out with the stock rails is still attached we built a box frame on it and its almost level, close enough that it wont be noticeable sitting. tomorrow we paint and mount the bracket and passenger seat and if we have time before we hit the drag strip we will do the driver seat. This is a huge huge huge pain in the ass but the seats look phat in the car and I shouldnt have expected anything less when modding an accent so oh well lol. I'm sure the finished product will more than make up for the pain and suffering along the way rofl.
