i had this problem 3 days after i had my 02. thought it might be the gas cap thing but after furter inspection it was the fule pump. they had to drop the tank to replace it. after that i had no problems. dont have that car anymore though.

P302, as he already stated, is a misfire of cylinder #2. THIS IS NOT A GAS CAP ISSUE!

Did you recently wash your car, drive through a large puddle, or drive through sever rain? After washing my car once, water got under the boot of my #1 cylinder coil pack which caused the spark to arch and cause a P0301 (misfire of cylinder #1). The dealer took a cotton swab and a heat gun to dry out the coil pack and I was back on the road.

thanks for the replies

1SickGS,
I changed the wires, is that still a possibility?!

I don't think this is a fuel pump issue either.

Your #2 cylinder wire may be bad, has bad contact points, or are just not seated properly.

I changed the wires to new.

also swapped the 2 and 3 on coil, so the ecu should be fooled now! and call code for cylinder 3 but it doesn't!

I now figured how misfire is detected,

by the sudden change of the crank speed as it goes around the circle.
I am now suspecting the plug and then injector. if those two are fine then I would go to do a compression test :S:S:S:S

Sorry I wasn't any help. But there is a whole section on http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech for troubleshooting misfires.

Here's the direct link for a 2000 1.5 liter: http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394878339#_394878339

checked that page not luck still

yet to swap the injectors, switch between cylinders and see if that solves the problem for THE faulty cylinder.
