When I accelerate i have a small chirping sound like i stuck a straw up a birds ass and blew really hard.Does anybody know what is causing this? It seems like it only does it when im accelerating or getting on it really hard.
My 99 does the same thing.. I was thinking it was the Alternator making the whir, I am thinking though it might be the timing belt that is slightly over tight, much like the same sound you might expect from a blower belt. Hope this helps..
I had the same problem a few months ago. I heard chirping when I accelerated at first and then it changed to whistling. I took my car to several shops and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. After a couple more months of whistling and power loss I finally took it back to Hyundai and they said it was the catalytic converter. I changed it and the sound came back after a couple days and I had even more power loss. It turns out it was a crack in the exhaust manifold and after replacing it my power was restored and the whistling and chirping disappeared. Hope this helps.
No just when i accelerate hard. When im doing 60 or so on the highway you cant hear it usually its just when im taking off. So that leads me to beleive that it may be a belt somewhere.
ive got the same problem with my 2001 hyundai accent .Dont wanna bring it to the shop cause iza poe right now.How much did it cost to replace the exhaust manifold.also i brought my car to autozone and they said that the problem was the o2 sensor and believe it or not the chirping sounds like it is comming from there.the only place i could find an o2 sensor is hyundai and they want $100.00 for it.anyone know where i could get a cheaper deal.
For those who have the chirping when driving on the freeway or when accelerating, the problem is likely the ignition coil sparking. This happened on my '04 Accent and my Mom's '05 Accent. Have a friend watch the coil while you give it a lot of gas. You'll see a spark from the ignition coil to the engine case and hear the chirp sound. On the freeway when it does this you slow down from 65 to 55. The problem gets worse over time and will eventually wear out your catalytic converter. You can get a replacement for about $40 online.
