Default 2003 Accent Auto Trans Maintenance?

Ok, have a 2003 Accent GT auto.

Just under $70k miles.
Change oil every 3-4K (been using Synth blend since 50k miles or so).
Replaced timing belt, fuel filter, flushed radiator and had my trans fluid flushed 2xs.

I know their has to be some kind of trans fluid filter.
When should this be changed? Is it a dealer only type of deal or can I bring it to A Monro/Midas type place?
I do notice when on highway @ 50-60mph and I hit it, sometimes it shifts HARD, or will slightly wind before shifting.

Thoughts?

I would say at about 60k it should of been done about every other trans fluid change. It could probably be a little less often, Midas or a place like that should be able to do it all that needs done is the trany pan needs to be removed and the filter is right there I think the filter is like $15 or something. Pull your trany dip stick and look at the fluid see if it is light in color or if you can see little black peices in it if you can then you need the fluid changed atleast and probably do the filter at teh same time. YOu can do them anyway and see it may help, change is probably about $100 if you pay to have it done at a non-dealer place.

Thanks. I will probably do it @ 75 since I did the trans flush @ 60k

I experience the same problem. Getting a fluid chance will help, but it might still happen. I think the tranny mounts have a lil' something to do with it

it is the tranny itself that shifts hard
the automatics are crap and have horrible kick-down
mine has done it since i've had the car 2-1 downshift is very bad
usually the 4-3 is pretty bad to, it doesn't have anything to do with dirty fluid

i've also flushed the tranny in mine 3 times, need to do the filter but each time it hasn't done anything, i even had the tranny solenoids replaced under warranty and it did nothing, just face it the auto trannies in accents aren't that great.

the auto tranny is made by chrysler, I have one too, I have the same kick down problem and I think it pulled one of my tranny mounts oput a little and it's clicking around when I turn hard or break hard or accel quick from stop. I'll look at it soon. but yeah there is no hope for these trannys, but with regular maintenance they should last the life of the car. at least we dont hear about these trannys dying all the time and needing to be replaced.

Sounds like it is the nature of the beast.
Altho I have not replaced the tranny filter yet, I did have it flushed (when they pump it thru until it comes out clean) 2xs already (am @ 70k miles now), so I have at least been doing some basic stuff to maintain it.
I will flush it and change the filter @ 85 or so.
