My car didn't want to start at the 3rd start of the day within an hours time. Radio, clock dome light worked fine. All it did was whirl and would fade out. Someone was able to help me jump start it. The worst part was that it happend at the gas station after I left the dealership where I'd purchased a new drain plug and gaskets. Actually, the worst thing is that I have a week of vac from work and I was going to leave town today. I take that back the worst thing is that I have no money now after buying brakes, shoes, new rotors, plugs, wires, filters, and that bolt problem ( http://www.hyundaiperformance.com/fo...ic.php?t=72318). Ok now for the question: what is a powered LC's battery life? I've had mine for 3yrs 6months now. Please don't let it be the alternator too.
my solution, buy an optima. They're like double the cost of a conventional battery, but they will more than outlast the life of two conventional batteries. I bought a shitty autolite battery from Checker in September, and it conked out in November. I got them to replace it (after practically threatening castration), and the one they gave me died three weeks later. So, i got my money back, and bought an Optima red top, and I haven't had problems since. I even jumpstarted a chev pickup with a 454 in it!
it doesn't necissarily lose cells, if it loses cells, it will have lower OCV, but that is usually a result of overcharging and age. discharging a battery causes all of the sulfuric acid in the battery to leave the electrolyte and join with the lead plates. This leaves pure water in the battery, making it more susceptible to freezing. also, when the plates take on a lot of acid, they tend to build up a coating of sulfate on the outsides of them, giving less surface area for reactivity, and thus, less cranking amps and voltage.
Optima cures the sulfating and water usage problem by sealing the battery, and instead of a liquid electrolyte solution like a conventional battery, optima uses spiral wound cells with a gel-like solution. Any gassing by the plates is absorbed back into the battery by the solution.
I wish I could have replaced it with an Optima battery but they're between $120 to $170 at AutoZone. It hurt just buying the Duralast Gold battery 7yr warranty for 79.99, but necessary. What happened to the $40 dollar battery with a 5yr warranty?
Though, I do feel the difference. Is that possible? It seems to be peppier. The past week the car felt weak and thought it was time for a new fuel filter. I would also feel quick sudden losses of power on the highway.
i have recently started to have the same prob. but i keep charging the battery and it's fine, but the car has trouble starting up, sometimes it struggles, other times it dies. i do have a sub and maybe it has strained the battery, but as i said the battery seems to be okay.
