Whatever I do with my radiator system, it keeps making the coolant bronw. I flushed it a dousin times but noo... it insists. Brown coolant. I think the engine has so much rust inside! Any props for this? I'm flushing with water and I leave the hose for about half an hour till the water is clean but when I fill the rad. with new coolant after 15mins of driving it comes out brown. The gaskets are new, the headgasket also, I'm not losing oil and such, and everything is perfect. Please prop something. I don't want to pay $$$ to get it to the radiator cleaner(thief).

Re: Brown coolant I clean it and it's brown again!!
Apparently the guy that owned the engine before used water all the time and it's rusted inside! Damn... I think I'll go to the cleaning mecahic to clean it up.

Re: Brown coolant I clean it and it's brown again!!
I had a HUGE problem with rust in my Bronco. I finally found something that works.
Here's the procedure I used:
-Flush the system.
-Add 2 regular sized bottles of CLR (Calcium/Lime/Rust remover for household use).
-Fill the rest of the way with water.
-Run in your car for 2 days at least, about a week at most.
-Flush cooling system.
-Refill with premixed 50/50 coolant and an anti-rust additive like Prestone Super Anti-Rust.
-Periodically check condition repeating every month until system is clear.
When flushing your coolant system that is laden with rust be sure that you open the drain at the bottom of your radiator and also that you run water both directions through the heater core. Be careful not to run too much pressure through a clogged heater core though or you may cause a leak. In other words don't just turn a hose on high and blast it. run a lower pressure through it, alternating direction of the flow until it comes out clear.
When I started trying to eliminate rust from my Bronco when draining out of the radiator drain plug it would get clogged and stop draining. I put a little pressure on the ststem with a hose untl it blew out. This should be safe because your radiator cap should let water escape before your radiator, heater core, or seals could be damaged. After draining I had a pile of rust that was a foot in diameter and almost 3 inches deep in the middle. Now my system has no rusty water, but I had to do the above about probably 5 times until it finally had it under control.
Re: Brown coolant I clean it and it's brown again!!
some say that if the coolant is brown constantly, the coolant is mixing with the old
well, i'mma flush my coolant this sunday and i'mma buy 3 gallons of prestone premixed antifreeze,a rigid wet-dry vac and some CLR Just in case
here's my plan..
1:drain coolant from radiator, reservoir hose and the inside of coolant hose's by either sucking out the coolant or blowing it out of the pipe with the shop vac
2:flush with water
3:flush with a flush formula..prestone maybe.
4:refill with premixed coolant..and if it work's well for a day with no browness..i'll treat the car to a bottle of water wetter
also gotta change my oil with 3 bottles of 15w-30 and a bottle of 10w-30 mobil 1

Re: Brown coolant I clean it and it's brown again!!
TAK, why not buy a flushing kit? it's a lot more efficient than trying to use a shop vac. You hook a garden hose to a tee you install in your heater hose and blow all the old coolant and sediment out of the radiator cap under pressure.
Re: Brown coolant I clean it and it's brown again!!
Well, I disconnected the lower hose (the one which connects from the engine to the radiator) and I removed the thermostat. I put the water hose in there and flushed the system for about an hour. Then, I did the same to the radiator and then I disconnected the heater hoses and put the water hose there while the heater was on. I had a lot of dirt coming out and after I finished, I put new coolant and took for a ride. After a 20min ride, brown.... Damn.. I must use some chemical component I think... If I use some diesel inside the coolant system won't this flush the dirt as well? With water of course..
