Default 2001 Accent GSI Idle-Surge problem

Hey All..

My 2001 Accent GSI started this strange thing. Idle is normal at startup but after driving, idle seems to "stick" at around 200 RPM. I cleaned the mechanical throttle spring, etc. But last night it while coming to stop, I stepped on the clutch and it starting reving higher and higher and got up 5500 before I kicked it down by pushing the gas pedal quickly.

My next guess is to change the PCV valve.

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks,
Greg

Sorry, that's 2000 RPM, not 200 RPM. Sorry. It is "sticking" high, not low. And now reving by itself and surging while driving.

No aftermarket throttle body. The car is stock except for some 15" rims. Last night I took out the pcv valve and cleaned it. I took off the air cleaner supply hose and cleaned out the butterfly valve - but it looked pretty clean anyway. A bit of carb cleaner and air. Put some WD on the pivot for gas pedal and some more carb cleaner in the throtttle spring. It is all very clean mechanically. I pulled off the harness from the TPS and plugged it back in incase of corrosion or loose fitting.
Today the car didn't have the problem.
But it has dissapeared and come back before. We will see over the next few days.
Thanks.

Idle speed actuator? That's the wire connected to the right of your throttle body when looking into the engine bay. maybe look into this. The center one is the throttle position sensor.

My o2 accent did this, I don't know if it's the same or not (I have a 1.6l) anyway there is a silinoid on the throttle body that I think controls the air input in motor.Take it off and there is a little metal flap inside that rolls up into unit. Myne was carboned up real bad. So I took some rubbing alcohol on a q - tip and cleaned as well as I could. MY car had this problem at about 20,000 miles, no problems since I'm at 40,000.

Had same problem today, was my Air Temp Sensor wires, somehow one of them got a little cooked? Probable my bad mechanical skills. Had to resolder the wire runs good now. Although while it was on the frizts I disconnected the completet wire harness for that sensor. Now at Idle the car ran like a baddly tuned engine but once I got going, maybe it was just me being happy that it ran, but I swear I was runnign with a bit more HP. Oh yah Gas was being drunken faster then usually as well so I betthat had something to do with it. Probaly not something you would want to do for regular driving but it would be somethign to try ona DYNO for kicks.
