Default The Beast: 1500 sohc Accent (LOL)

In march this year i bought my first car, the afformentioned 1500 accent. its an 00 model ls, so the bare minimum of performance and comfort, however i figured it would be cheap to run and cheap to insure (HA!) i bought the car with 50000km on the clock, and for some reason (mostly burnouts and drag racing) the clutch, gearbox, starter, diff, transaxle and master cylinder blew at 57000km. after paying a quarter of the price of the car to fix it, its back on the road.

I was considering selling it and getting something that might be slightly more suited to my driving habits, however once finding out the resale on the car i decided it would be better just to keep it. Now, i do enjoy driving it. theres not a 1800 vtec integra in palmy that i havnt completly smoked in a drag, i can beat any wrx or evo off the line, but i want a little more ay.

this brings me to my question, will the 1600 dohc head bolt straight on to the 1500 block? and if so, what sort of HP gains could i expect with custom cams (310 cam degreees?), manifold, big bore, straight piped exhaust, no cat, pod filter, (possibly forged internals?), a good port and polish of the block (possibly acid dip it?)

anyways, cheers in advance for your responses, and remember this, its not the ride, its the rider (LMAO), na seriously, i reckon the little beast has been the best thing for my driving, cause it has so little power, i have to drive it perfectly to get it to go fast, so when i jump in anything else i just fly lol

1.6 head = no.
1.5 SOHC was more mitz based than the 1.6. The 1.6 is like a mini version of the hyundai designed 2.0.

WRX or EVO off the line?... maybe if they are looking the other way.

If your going to try and make the 1.5 gofast, go boost. That motor seems to handle pressure just fine. 310 degree cams.... not a good idea. Your head design as it is right now doesn't flow that well at higher rpm. That and good luck idling. Stick with stock cam, install a turbo (scoupe manifold will work), spend some money on a good fuel system, and the other goodies that go along with boosting. You will be much happier than if you try to go N/a with it.

hmmm, if i was gonna turbo i wouldnt be using the 1500 block though, id probably just run a 4age with turbo and cams. its much cheeper and easier to source parts for. and yeah, any evo or wrx off the line.... i mean, turbo cars are hardly fast off the mark, i get smoked of course once the turbo kicks in, but i havn't yet met someone who can launch better than me lol (the ego...)

of course, because front wheel drive cars are famous for AWD beating, always perfect, better than an evo launch...:sleepy: get your stories straight then come back and ask questions.

no no no, i said i havn't met a person who i could launch better than me... yes, technically awd will get more traction off the line, however, it still requires a skilled driver to launch it, and to launch it fast. someone who's not really afraid to blow a clutch or two trying.... so yes, you are right, technically a fwd stands little chance against an awd car, however, my experience has shown me that most people in high powered turbo cars are somewhat lazy and unskilled drivers... it is much easier to make a wrx look like its going fast than it is to in an accent. you can go quickly in a wrx without ever hitting a good gearchange

You do know Hyundai Accent isn't a race car, right?

OK ok ok...I think what he's saying here is that the first 3 sec. of the race he has the lead. I've driven a WRX before and well...that cltch if HEAVY and you HAVE to practiclly DROP it at a haigh rpm. (3500 i think is what it was). I havn't driven one since and that was 2 years ago. Anyway...yeah I've notice these lazy as$ driver who want SPEED right off the bat get these sick cars and drive like morons. It does take more skill to take off in an Accent. A buddy of mine here on the forum: stein36. back when he had his accent he would dust cars off the line left and right. at times he would win but he always had the fastest reaction time. Anyway....so yeah it IS a possability that he's launching faster but overall he know his place on the track when next to a WRX...even an RSX.

it doesn't count when the other car has no idea you are about to launch.
