And buying a VW Golf, at least someone makes turbos for it, I bought this little car thinking it had potential in the area of 160-200 HP, but I was mistaken and heartbroken

Not trying to be an ass here but I do a good job at it anyways.

Why did you wait to register and post after you decided to trade your car in instead of registering earlier and asking questions?

You can turbo your car and their will be kits available in the future. Also you do realize that since your car is so new you are more then likely upside down in it which means you owe more then it is worth. If this is the case you will get less then pay off when you trade it in and they will have to finance the rest into your new car.

Oh well you will learn<img src=/images/forums/snitz/disapprove.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

I have been a voyeor (check speling) for a while month or so, and really dont want to trade it in but it appears this engine is being overlooked and with such a large install base I find that hard to believe. I can't sit here and claim I am some hard core tuner which I am not. I bought the car with the intention of giving it to my son in 3 years with about 45K on it and letting him put dollars in it, but my mid life crisis is upon me and all of a sudden I have this need for speed. Here in MD I doubt I can do the 2Liter thing without blowing a WAD of cash (family man) and besides I don't have the expertise, I was willing to go a couple of $K on a turbo kit decent tire package and body kit a liitle suspension and exhaust car cost me 8K and I figured another 4-6K seemed like a fair (investment) 14K for a decent little ride, but now I dont know and don't belive good tuner shops are avail here in MD,,,open to suggestions

there are plenty of good tuner shops here in MD you just gotta get in contact with them. goto shows and you can talk to some of them. a couple off the top of my head are extreme motorsports and metro motorworks. there are a bunch of other shops across md you just have to get out there and look.

i'll sell you my car <img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

There are several forced induction options for the accent. You just need to ASK QUESTIONS. Also, you are allowed to make a custom kit, ya know.

There you go<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0> See how it works<img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

Take your time to make your decision. As you can see there are options available and if you ask questions people are willing to help.

Besides it is always nicer to see someone older on the boards then me.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/laugh.gif width=15 height=31 border=0>

Oh yeah...

Not trying to give suggestions on raising you kid, especially since I have none so I wouldn't have a clue on raising one. So I am only speaking on the fact that I know young drivers.

Don't you think if you are giving the car to your son (I am asuming when he turns 16) it would be wiser to not turbo it and build it up to be a n/a car? A turbo car IMO is just to quick for a new driver. He will more then likely always try to race it if it is fast.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/disapprove.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

Again this is just my opinion. It is your son.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>

Autobot, If I built it up he would get the minivan

But on a serious note I appreciate the favorable responses, this does appear to be a friendly and knowledgeable forum. I also noted u can do some minor mods that will produce a little more punch but unless u go with an engine swap or custom u can't do much. It seems Hyundai wants to ensure the TIB remains the performance platform to do major tweaks, doesn't want the sibling stealing the show.

Like I said earlier I am not a big tuner, and frankly with a house full of kids and a 60 hr a week job I simply don't have the time.

Thats why I am on at 1145 PM , this is my time if u will.

Exterior mods (asthetics) dont mean to much to me, so the body kits and all are nice but I can pass.

What puzzles me is that this car is selling like hot cakes and u would think one of the foreign manufactures in Australia or South America would be willing to come up with a decent little kit adding 60 - 100 HP to this little pocket rocket, I know there are R&D expenses and all and certainly time needed and for all I know someone is designing one now. I see that the TIB is geeting a Beast Kit from South America for about 4K and pushing out big Ft Lbs.

I need to get with that group of people and see what can be done. I am willing to throw a couple of hundred at it just to get it started. A separate tally could be kept on all 1.6 owners interested in this idea. I fugure for somewhere around 3000 dollars a decent kit can be manufactured that will boost this beast up to VW 1.8T range. Throw in a little suspension and clutch work decent wheels and your base car investment and your looking at about 14-16K far less than the 1.8T and will smoke most of your civic foes and such. And the beauty of it is u wil no longer have to hear the TIB owners say sorry accent owners.

If u go replace the motor with a 2.0L then bolt on a decent kit plus the suspension and all I would have to guess u climb pass 20 Thousand and I can't justify that,, and finally I wasn't trading my beast in just needed to remind myself why I bought it in the 1st place reliable, frugal and inexpensive...

Sorry for the epic,,,
AB
