Default Acccent + towing

Hi all,

I was just wondering if it was at all possible to hook up a trailer to the accent ? I saw on the hyundai website that there are no trailer hitches as an option... My friend has one and wanted to tow his 4 wheeler around..

Book says the accent has 1500lb. towing capacity... The 4 wheeler weighs 400 pounds + the trailer weight...

I appreciate any info.... Thanks all...

I personally wouldn't tow anything with this car.

Even though they say you can tow up to 1500 lbs., you'll be over-working the engine and transmission, especially on hills. Expect the car to run hotter than normal.
Your ability to brake will be diminished to the extra weight and I'm not sure what it would do to how the car handles.
There is also the issue of how the trailer hitch is attached the car. There may not be a good way to do it without damaging the body or the frame.

Hmmm..

Really ? I thought it would be all right...

Oh well, I guess he souldn't use it to tow his ATV then... Thanks for the advice...

His accent is a lease.. If he puts a hitch on it and decides to tow less than 1500lbs, is it going to void the warranty ?

Any more opinions ? Thanks again

He would have to check with the dealer, but I wouldn't be surprised if attaching a tow hitch to it would cost him money in terms of the lease. With the warranty he would have to check with the dealer.

Check out Hidden Hitch they make stuff for almost any car, I have one on my escort and its a bolt on no holes to drill and almost completly hidden. that way if you ever have to remove well cant say much cuz no damage done. as long as you dont haul a car with it you would prob be ok.

I went to the Hidden Hitch website. The vehicles that have hitches available for them 99 and above are the Tiburon (?) and the Santa Fe.

To me, towing just isn't a good idea unless you have the engine, transmission and suspension for it.

Ive been told that they are pretty good for towing. Its an option in Australia to fit a tow bar/trailer hitch. Ive personally seen an excel/accent x3 tow a fairly large speed boat with a massive engine on the boat also. Didnt even look like it was struggling but it might have had some mods to spings etc to cope. Not sure if it was a manual but id hate to see what it would do to a clutch when starting.

The 2000 GSi I have says no towing because of the engine. I mean thats a lot of load for that. I personally have another vehicle for that.
