I been thinking I want a cold air intake for my x3. after some research ive found that most people just make them for this ride. ive also seen some different designs of CAI where the air box is still in use. so im thinking about something a little different. Im thinking ill keep my air box but cut a hole in the side of it closest to the drivers side and run some sort of tubing to a vent cut right into the fender. any thoughts on this? im a newb and maybe this has been done or its just a bad idea.
A few people on here have done something similar. Go out and buy a K&N stock panel replacement filter. Or, you can just custom-make a short-ram intake. It's all preference.

Eh, you can do it but it wont really give you any gains. The stock intake already has a air routing from a cooler source, youd be better off replacing the airbox and the tract from the box to the TB, as thats the source of restriction and roughness that a CAI can free up.
A large amount of smooth flowing, unrestricted air from a (relatively) cold source is where you get hp. You wont get that from a hacked airbox...
thanks for the info... i kinda figured that. Check out the CAI that performance styling center sells. thats kinda what i was talking about, so is it not good? someone told me SRI is better for my car. (X3) i assume thats also easier to make. but couldnt i get better flow with a CAI that hung down? or maybe I need a scoop? whats the best thing to do? or are they all pretty much the same on gains? what about the sensor that is on the air box. its not the maf, thats later in the tubing. so what is that sensor on the airbox anyway? do i need to include it on a custom intake? if not do i just disconect it or what?

ok cool, im thinking ill end up with something similar. what about that other sensor though? originally it sits in the airbox. also do you have some kind of vent in your hood?
Hey, you should get the CAI for the LC models as with slight modification you can make them fit into the X3 engine bay, this has been done by a few people on UKHAC Home page
When the site comes back up properly register on the forum and i'm sure the people who have already done this would be glad to help with this, the people who have done this have reported good gains!!
Hey jus a quick question, i replaced my intake with a pod setup. On some of the cars i c all these other tubes tapped into the pipe, jus wanna no if i am sposed to hav ne of those... check my sig for wat car i have... i have myspace and there r pics of my setup in my pics section...
cool, thanks for the info. ill probly do that with the lc model cai. but i still want to know what that extra sensor is on the airbox. anyone know? do i need it on a cai?
the bottom sensor you dont need....just tuck it somewere...
you can use pretty much any intake pipe, the reason i went with the one section from the focus is because it sits perfectly behind the battery, you just gotta turn the battery tray around 180 degrees, it moves it forward and to the left.
if you are lookingfor a cheap intake, just get a civic one off of eBay and cut it
