Drain and refill your transmission with Redline MT-90. That will solve the 1-2 shift problem.

As far as occasionally giving you a little trouble going into reverse that's pretty normal and all you'll have to do is when it feels like it's going in a little goofy move the shifter back to neutral, let the clutch out, depress the clutch pedal again, and shift into reverse but this time it will work fine.

If that's the case you may have a problem that is beyond the normal difficulty I was talking about. Your linkage could be loose or bent possibly. With me any time I've had that problem I only have to do like I said, and that's been with several cars, not just the Accent. So i guess i don't know what else to tell you.

You arent by any chance still moving in the forward direction when you try and put it into reverse...

I will assume that you know that accents here in AUS (not sure about the states but probably there as well) have a lever arm that prevent accidental shift from 5th into reverse...
The way to put it in is from neutral...

Some times when im still rolling forward and i try to put it in reverse a little too early i will get a slight clunk as the teeth on the flywheel (?) engage with the reverse gear...

If your gearbox has nothing wrong with it you shouldnt have to put any additional pressure on the shifter when putting it into reverse compared to other gear shifting...

Cheers

Lol, no im not stupid I have an excel so i dont no whether it has the same mechanism as an accent? No this happens when i start the car and go to put it in reverse from neutral to back out my driveway or park...

Ye thats what i thought, but then my friend said he had the same dramas so i thought it might be a Hyundai thing... obviously not

Its just that im going to turbo the car very soon and if there's a problem with the gearbox i want to fix it now instead of it going BANG! later on

Could it be that your clutch is a bit dodgy....

Maybe you have a bit of air in the mechanism....

The clutch isnt moving out far enough to clear the gear teath of reverse...

Cheers

Yeah ur probably right, i need to get a new clutch soon.

I was thinking of the stage 2 from PSC, will this handle 10 PSI?

I hope that fixes it...

Sounds like what is called "Torque Lock". I know this happens to automatic trannies, should hold true for manuals also. When you place the vehicle into gear and get out without a tight parking brake-and the vehicle shifts a little it is held by the transmission and not the brake. If you can't shift into reverse next time simply release all holds (brake and put car into neutral or clutch in) and shift your wieght front to back and i have used my foot out the door and pushed. Once the pressure is removed from the current gear you may shift. This usually occurs when you park on an incline and such. As for 1st to second mine does this and has done it since day one. Once the tranny warms it isnt so bad. But yes i think its the forward sych. gear thing I'm going to try that fluid mentioned and see if i get relief. I was told that you can warm the tranny by simply shifting from first to fifth and reverse and 5th to first a few tiles while starting the car when cold.
