Default 1.5 to 1.6 swap.. HELP...

Looking for pertainant information ..

My little Accent has 165 000 now.. Problem is, the clutch is now history and the car has been cooked through.. Sort of need the cat for Cali standards, if not, you end up with a gross polluter like my little Accent..

I was snooping around the junk yards recently, and I have been finding newer 1.6l power plants.. I tried searching the forums here, but I pretty much came up with engines numbers, as opposed to displacement, which essentially confused this guy..

I realize I am more than likely going to be flamed for asking instead of looking else wheres, but this would be much appreciated information for me..

Regards.. Tim

So you need a new clutch and motor cause you stuffed them...??

Or do you just need a catalytic converter...??

Im pretty sure ebay will have the 1.6L motor you want and im sure you could use TOM'S for the other parts you need...

You will have to find some one on this board who knows if the motor mounts for the 1.6L motors are the same as what you have in your engine bay (sorry but i dont know)...

Cheers

I smell an opportune time for a beta swap.

Well the 2.0 would be cool.. Problem is I live in Cali and I don't want the hassle etc.. If I lived in Arizona, I would likely jump on the oppurtunity to go that way..

I only did a quick visual check and I noticed the front engine mount appeared to be the same * well Duh Timmah.. * .. The thing is, I toasted the Cat around the same time the crank sensor had a fit and died.. Fine replaced the crank sensor, it started * when I was watching the cat, it started glowing a nice cherry red, I knew it went rich when I seen that *.. So fine I drove the car until it was time for smog, failed smog on the low end test * lack of the cat will do that * and flew through the test on the higher rpm test * tells me the engine is probably in good shape yet *.. Of course I was allowed to drive the car for a month or so after, I got an extension for the smog fix, then the throw out bearing came apart.. Shoot... I thought about fixing the car, hench replacing the ole 1.5 with the 1.6 with trans and clutch for $350 total, as opposed to a $650 clutch job and a $635 cat from Hyundai ( no after market here ).. Ow.. I am damned if I do and damned if I don't... Heck I might even be open to selling the car, although I would feel bad about getting rid of an excellent friend..

Who knows, I might even have a 94 Excel to go to..

Dayum.. What to do...

Regards.. Tim

What hassle would it be from cali? It's a damn 2.0 engine. They have v10s going 160 around their streets. Damn vipers..

Sometimes I don't find beta engines for sale, if someone shows me a link, thatd be cool. I want to put a beta in my scoupe, I think.

Dude...I'm in cali. too. Don't worry about emissions...listen...you have 2 routes that you could take...get a new 1.5 and swap out the rods and everything from a Scoupe, change the manifold and turbo charge it. You'll be able to keep everything simple and put out more power than a 1.6 or you can beta swap and go up from there. Either way the 1.6 is bogus. They make hardly ANY parts for the thing and it's way too expensive for what they do make. at least the beta has more options to choose from.
