Default water getting into x3 hatch somehow. any ideas?!!

welp, ive got a 98 x3 (gsi) as some may know. anyways, i noticed that somehow, water s getting into my hatch! it just lays down in the bottom where the spare tire is and sits.. so its not any of those big rubber plugs in the bottom, i checked. its not makeing any of the carpeting wet, just going down underneath somehome. if you look at where the hatch clasps, and then follow along the lip either right or left, you would see that where the lip goes from horizontal to almost vertical to go up over the tail lights, there is a spot (same on each side) where water is... this is where i think ts getting in somehow. like right at each side before the bottom of the trunk gets deep for the spare, it seems to be comming in and and running down. i thought maybe it was getting forced up underneather and commig thru, but i don't see how. now think it runs down the lip of the hatch, and then seeps in when the seal levels out. the seal itself looks ok, so i don't think its at the seal, but somewhere around that area..somehow. aghh im going to go take my bumper off now...

anyone else ever had water in their hatch? why was it there and how did u fix it?? im tryin to trouble-shoot... thanks!

<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>Okie...check the weather stripping, if it is cracked or has become hardened from wear and tear it should be replaced. This is a common cause of your problem. Also, look under the car where your spare tyre is and check for rusting, especially the kind that suggests water accumulating for long periods...

I have a LC that does it as well as a golf did it. Appears to occur during the warm weather because of condensation for me. I wipe it up no leaking on outside or inside but it appears check around If it was leaking from the outside the flooring would show signs of water damage. IF you dont see it its condensation forming just have to wipe it up. I just but an old towel around the wheel seems to do the trick.
