Default 2007 SE Airbag removal

I have removed my rear seatbacks and I am getting lightweight seats. Airbags are actually inside the front seats right? So racing seats are probably going to save a good amount of weight. I want to remove the rear airbags as I don't haul more than one other person in my car. I doubt anyone has done this yet but any info that can be... digged up ... would be awesome. I don't know how it will effect my front airbags as far as them still functioning or randomly deploying as I have heard can happen when you remove airbags. If nobody can supply any info on this I will try to discuss the matter with Hyundai and I will get back to those of you who may be interested in saving weight. Thanks.. I'm off to CarDomain to create a profile so I can share my Black and Blue SE with ya. Later

you remove any airbag you will get a light, after that light comes on NONE of them will deploy.

Trust me, man...keep those side impact air bags. You think they're just useless weight, cuz "you don't plan on getting broadsided anytime soon." I was broadsided in my Accent a month ago, and the Paramedic that pulled me out of the car told me that I could've been killed if I hadn't had side impact air bags.

Thanks guys.. now are there airbags inside the front seats? There is a tag on the seat that says SRS Airbag or whatever. If so.. if I replace the seats will that disable all of my airbags? The whole question about there being airbags in my seats might be dumb (I think the airbags are up in the front windshield pillar area where it also says SRS Airbag or whatever. ok thanks again here's my car if you want to check it out http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2620318/1

Default removing airbags

ok ... what I need is the resistance for the airbag circuit. I will only remove the rear bags and trick the system into thinking the bags are still there using resistors. Then I can still be safe up front. I'm glad you are ok attist178 and thanks for the reply. Can anyone tell me the procedure for draining any capacitors in the airbag system before I start working?

attist, My first car was a 1988 buick lesabre with the 3800 and it ran for 255,000 miles and still purred.. the tranny eventually failed and I got rid of it. My last car was a 1998 olds eighty eight with the series II. Supercharge that baby! Awesome engine.

Unless this is a track only car, I wouldn't mess with the airbags. If your insurance company finds out you will be SOL.

I would keep them. I have heard, not seen, that the 07's didn't get very good crash test ratings.

Messing with ANY safety item on any car is illegal. The newer cars have a CAN protocol networking system and this can cause the ECU to limit things you may want to have if you disable a item that the ECU wants to see.

I knew it was illegal to pay someone else to do it but I didn't think there was anything illegal about doing it yourself. Anyway after these responses I might just not F with it. Stupid CAN systems and legal CRAP! I just wanted the REAR ones out.. I don't even have rear seats! Sorry.. Thanks guys.
