Default 03 accent needs a make-over

not really actually. Long story short I am about to end up with my dad's old 03 accent. It already has 140k miles on it in the 4 short years he has owned it..he commuted over 60 miles to and from work every day in that time, so warranty is up. He is no longer able to drive at all due to failing vision and since im the only other one in the family that knows how to drive stick its mine. Currently i drive an 06 elantra and have been for some time saving for a 240 and a ca18 swap + turbo/fuel/brake upgrades. However...the urge to build a hyundai is too tempting for me to ignore....i was gonna leave the 240 as stock as possible (asthetically) to make it a total "sleeper", however...even with body mods nobody would expect a hyundai to be fast. There's the background and reasoning, now questions.

1) ENGINE - How much power can the stock accent tranny and motor handle? Im looking to push out at the end about 200 hp and approximately the same amount of torque at the end. Now im not talking about fuel system or wiring or that crap...i mean literally how much stress can the rods, pistons, and everything else take reliably? Id like to stay away from swapping a motor into it if necessary. How about the elantra engine? as much as id like to keep the stock 1.6L, dropping in an elantra motor brings me almost half way to my power goal and may end up being cheaper. If I remember correctly a delta WONT fit right?

2) Has anybody found a reliable turbo kit for the accent or beta swapped accent? Or will this be one of those, buy a manifold, turbo, and associated universal parts....and start building your own kit jobs

3) Brakes....can tib or sonata brakes fit? Or any aftermarket brake kits?

4) ECU....definitely going to need a piggy back or an ecu flash...who can do this or who sells this...

5) Tranny...what am i going to do here....will the stock tranny take all this power? Can it be modded to work easily?

Yeah to mod the accent to get it anywhere near a 240 with an engine swap would cost a lot more.

I say do it if you have a few grand lying around and you want to be different. I too love the 240 and want to do a modest build one day but the 1.6 in the accent really isn't worth doing up. The 2L swap with turbo is decent but it's still FF and i'm sure we all can agree FR are way more fun. (considering you are well above the "snow belt")

Don't get me wrong I like my car a lot but I know how much it would cost to get it anywhere near 138 that the CA18DE has. Basically it's a lot of work and money for ok gains just nothing amazing.

If you want more info post in the Hybrid forum. Those guys know what the numbers are and what turbo to put on. A decently done up Beta Turbo and tuning can get you 250HP and that's great but it's a long road from your 300+ 240 drift machines.

the 240 would end up with around 220-240 (haha what a coincidence), its only a ca, good for up to 300 but thats a little more money than im lookin to spend lol. IM not a total power freak...i could never driving anything over 300 hp. I just wanna be able to pull hard.

Also i used to be around here back when i was still in high school, not new to hyundais completely. A with the beta in the accent + a turbo, should be no problem reaching the 200 range. I do have a question though...for the beta swap....what all needs to be swapped? this is probably more appropriate to the hybrid forum so i will post there in a few

Yeah there's a shopping list posted in the Hybrid forum. I suggest you check that out for sure.
