Its the base model with the 1.5l 12-valve engine, but im needing an economy car now as a poor *** college kid, and the 89 rx7 turbo i drove around in high school that got 9 mpg on premium isn't gonna happen, anyway I sold that car to pay tuition this year...and damn do i miss it.
So I picked this Accent up for $400 because I'm pretty sure it needs a new transmission. I drove halfway across Barrie in reverse tonight to get her home.
I'm wondering if any of you could offer some tips about how to go about diagnosing the issue.
The transmission fluid is black, and the only gear that works is R. (slushbox)....I think any possibilities of it just being a linkage or something are gone, but you never know.....and a transmission swap doesn't intimidate me anyways; I've done far more complicated things successfully before. Like somehow making a 1989 turbo rx7 run on a non-turbo ecu and pull hard to 13psi. I know that shouldn't have worked; but it did, made 250 rwhp

.
I'm going to call around scrapyards tomorrow and do my best to fix it. Im wondering, though, if i could just swap it over to a manual? Or would I also then need to swap the ecu from a car that came with the manual? And what transmissions will fit? Any accent that came with the 1.5l or does it have to be 00-06? will the 95-99 ones fit?
Thanks all.
