X3 Excel engine upgrading?

Hey,
I have got 1998 X3 Excel SOHC and im looking to get the most out of it. So i was thinking about doing the old engine swap but the more i read about it the more it seems like a bit a hassle. So i was wondering if anyone could tell me if its worth rebuiling the standard SOHC engine with all new parts? And also are these parts easy to come by?

most of the stuff would need to be custom fabricated, there is a ton more stuff and power you get get out of the swap.

RPW may still have plenty of upgrades for that engine. Pistons, cams, throttle bodies... for both NA and Turbo.
