Default Brake Pads.

My '03 LC2 has about 74,000 miles on it now. Last time I went to shop to get oil change done they said brake pads are almost done. I usually change engine oil myself but to cut down insurance since I don't travel alot now, I had to get mileage proof. Brake should be due since it's still original pads that came with car(I'm light on brake) Now my question is that what options do I have as far as Brake Pads goes? I know this has been covered before but most of them are pretty old it seems and I figured new stuffs might be out there now. I just want something that works better than stock. There 3 things I need to know about this.

1. What's out there that I can get that performs better than stock?

2. Where can I get it?

3. How many do I have to get it?

I figured since inspection is due in June, I'll just get pads and let them do it when they do inspection and flush brake fluid at same time.

Thanks
