Default Today's Work

Today I'm looking at modding the stereo setup. Presently the SR is a 4 channel amp running all four speakers with the front channels and the sub with the rear channels. I plan to install a 2 channel amp to take over the sub and restore the 4 channel to a proper setup. The only bad part of ths install will be that one of the amps will be visible and the sub box will no longer be as easly removable. But neither of this is really an issue since this is my car and I don't usually put anything but my work bag back there. I'm also replacing the speakers and possible the sub to a higher grade model of Clarion components. OK here's the question!

There is only a front and rear set of RCAs from the deck. Should I...
1. Run a Y off the rear RCA to power rear speakers and sub. or...
2. Run a Y off the front RCA to power all speakers and use rear for sub.

I hate to ask but does your head have 3 pre-outs? if it does and one is dedicated to a sub freq you should run another RCA, I run a five channel amp and will have to do the same thing to get my rears running right when I switch to a four channel for front/rear speakers and a mono-block amp for my sub.

a sub doesnt require as clean a signal to sound good. granted it will sound better with clean signal, but if you have to do it this way then run the y off the rear, and try and find a good splitter, i had problems splitting with y's from radio shack. they would cut in and out sometimes, aweful.

what head unit is this??

I am using my stock deck in my Elantra (due to the CAN line attached to the ECU) and wired my sub to the rear speaker leads.

I used a special converter to do this.

Don't have that problem here. Canadian Clarion deck. Regular stereo setup.

Note to anyone looking at replacing thier speakers in a 3dr MC. Schedule a lot of time. You damn near have to gut the complete back of the car. Damnit for all the talk about this car being the little tuner they sure made it damn hard to do anything to it. hehe
