Default Air/Fuel Mixture

I'm new so please bear with me. I have posted this to another forum but didn't receive any reply so I'm hoping that I can get some inputs from you guys.

===
I owned a 1995 Accent, and it's been with me for just almost 2 years. Recently I have noticed that I'm getting very low mileage so I brought it to my mechanic. When the mechanic rev up the engine, it produces black smoke. He said that it's a problem with air/fuel mixture (more fuel and less air). Since I'm in a place where there is no available shop that have scanner to diagnose the computer for possible defective sensor so the least we can do is replace the spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter.

Although it has help a little in reducing the black smoke, but it's still there. So I was hoping if someone can give some inputs regarding this problem.

Another thing, with this problem my mileage is very low. I'm only having
6-7km/L (this really $0CK$).

Thanks in advance.

My guess would probably be a bad engine coolant temp sensor or the mass airflow sensor. Black smoke usually means the engine is running very rich. Is your check engine light on ? Some of the auto parts will scan for codes for free.

If I'm not mistaken, Accents have 2 O2 sensors...

Black Smoke = Running Rich
Blue Smoke = Burning Oil

Attempt to replace the first O2 sensor, closest to the engine. The 2nd O2 sensor just monitors emissions. That should help a lot, if not most of your problems. Also, take carb cleaner, or intake cleaner, and spray down your MAF. Let it sit for a couple hours to ensure that it's completely dry and reinstall it. Helps a lot too. Changing out spark plugs and wires also helps because it insures most of the gas in the chamber is burnt. Without actuallty being there, it's hard to diagnose a lot of this stuff.
