Default replaced timing belt

Replaced timing belt on my 03 accent today it wasn't to hard. Since I have had this car I have had to replace the tps because of a torque converter lockup issue, replace the pulse generators because it downshifted hard when coming to a stop. The car only has 69000 miles are these common problems and are there any other issues with these cars I should know about. I like this car and would like to try to get another 60000 miles out of it.do you guys think its possible.I do all my own work on it because I am extremely picky when it comes to car repair. I llike the fact that hyundai gives you access to their service website, i also wonder if any other car makers do this.

what did you have to remove to replace it?

i just replaced my friend's timing belt on his ranger and all we had to remove was the radiator fan. hoping it's that easy for us since i need to change mine...

There are 2 marks one is on the crank sprocket and the cam gear has a small hole you look through with the mark on the cyl. head. I lined these up and took the old belt off and replaced with new one making sure they did not move.

the hardest part about the timing belt on the accents is the tensioner and the getting the bolts out on the water pump pulley. All in all its not a bad job, even a weekend warrior with jack stands and a floor jack should be able to finish up in a day.

to answer your question about other problems with the accents, a typical problem with most hyundais in general is the rotors tend to rust to the hubs and makes cutting the rotors nearly impossible because most of the time gettting the rotors off requires hammering them off from the back.

Also with the accents, the rear shoes will create enough of a lip in the drum that it makes it a pain in the butt to get the drum off. I've wrecked my shoes taking them off before because there is so little room to try to adjust the shoes back. If you haven't done shoes on an accent before it is a pita because of so little room to work with.

The only other problems i've had with mine are a bad fuel pump relay and the overdrive switch going bad.

They are very reliable cars that get a bad wrap for being disposable because they depreciate like a mofo. If you keep up the basic maintenance they will last for a long time. I have 93,000 miles on my daily driver 2000 and 100,000 on my 99 turbo.

hey andy!!!

i'm at 228,000 on my 01 right now, so they do last awhile. i filled up my tank last with 350 miles on the trip meter: she averages 32~40 mpg depending on how much traffic there is when i drive in the city.

hey rob,

yeah I convinced my dad to get a 01 L model with 55k on it for $3600, damn good shape too
he said he is getting 37-38 mpg city/highway
I wish my 2000 was a 5spd but it is what it is
i'm stuck getting around 26 mpg city/highway but it still runs great.
