Default cmon no ideas bore on 2003 Accent LC 1.5L 16v

hello all Hyundai drivers,

after a oil pump failure i have to make motor to my 2003 LC sedan GLS 1.5 16v accent.

and since it takes about same labor i think to make the bore bigger.

is it possible to go 1.8 L and use elentra pistons?

can i use stock valves, injectors and crankshaft etc..?

what all i have to take care of?

i am waiting ideas an opinions of all you Hyundai drivers and fans.

greetings from Turkey

PS: i know about and i cant go 2.0L. i can just repair - modify my own engine due to availability and tax costs of 2.0 engine here in turkey

i don't think that you can stuff 1.8 pistons into a 1.5 hole ?

your sailing into unchartered waters here

I couldn't tell you what size piston would fit with an overbored alpha block. I think that a 1.8 beta piston would be a huge bore difference vs the alpha piston. I don't have the numbers right in front of me but i'm sure its a big difference.

My suggestion to you is if your rebuilding the motor to try to find some stronger pistons with a slightly lower compression ratio and make up the difference in displacement with boost. I nicely tuned turbo setup will make more power than a bolt on equipped beta motor.

thank you andy for your productive (not like that other guy) ideas.

turbo is an option but it will be difficult to pass the technical checks here.
and i prefer natural aspirated motors.

i think i go fish in Mitsubishi waters

i post here if i found a solution.

Your 2003 is 1.5? Is it a DOHC? In that case its a 1.6L.
If it was a 1.6 heres your info.

1.6L:
- 1,599 cc, 1.6 liters in-line 4 front engine with 76.5 mm bore, 87 mm stroke, 10 compression ratio, double overhead cam and four valves per cylinder

1.8:
- 1,795 cc, 1.8 liters 4 in-line 0° front transverse engine with 82 mm bore, 85 mm stroke, 10 compression ratio, cast iron block, light alloy head, double overhead cam, automatic valve adjustment and four valves per cylinder

So for that to work you will need to bore out the 1.6 by 3.5mm wich is quite a bit I would think seeing as its such a small engine.

In that case get a 1992 Elantra 2.0 Its a Mitsubishi 4g63 and you can swap in Mitsubishi heads with MVAC (?) or you can get a 4g63T and just "SAY" its Hyundai cause they have no way to prove it and you can end up with a 170 hp Accent with a stock motor that will pass emmissions.

thank you fintile

i found out my engine code G4EC and it is really a 1,5L i think one step between
12v 1,5L and 16v 1.6L.

G4ECX...

Its the motor that the Australian LC accent came out with...
The Late model LC's and LC2's got the 1.6L alpha motor...

If what you are really after is a decent motor that will fit in your engine bay and give you decent power from stock, instead of spending all that money on boring out the stock G4ECX get rid of it and put in a nice Beta 2 engine from an elantra (search "beta swap")...

This will give you 100kw at flywheel (around 70 at the wheels) bog stock...
This is an instant 20kw (at the wheels) increase from the stock 1.5l motors...

Also there is a larger aftermarket for the 2.0L Beta 2 motors than there is for the 1.5/1.6 DOHC motors...

Also i think the maximum you can bore out the cylinders is 1.7L (what ever that measurement is), there was a Pourto Rican who did this...
Any further and it would cut into the water and oil galleries in the block...

Cheers
